A South Bend man has been sentenced to federal prison after admitting to stealing money while working as a bank teller.

Kerry T. Hancock, 34, was sentenced Jan. 27, by a U.S. District Court judge after pleading guilty to embezzlement by a bank employee. Federal prosecutors say Hancock worked as a teller in Mishawaka when he forged a customer’s signature and withdrew more than $185,000 from a rarely used bank account.

According to court documents, Hancock took the cash and hid the money at his home.

He was ordered to serve two months in prison followed by eight months of supervised release. The first three months of supervision will be served on home detention. Hancock was also ordered to pay $115,864.84 in restitution.
