U.S. Senator Jim Banks is calling for federal action following a deadly crash Tuesday in Hendricks County that killed 64-year-old Terry Schultz.
The crash happened at the intersection of U.S. 36 and County Road 525 East.
In a statement, Banks said the semi-truck driver should not have been on the road and described the incident as part of a broader national safety concern. He said he plans to introduce legislation aimed at removing unsafe drivers from U.S. highways and is asking the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration to investigate certain trucking operations.
According to reporting cited by the senator’s office, the semi driver allegedly ran a red light. Fox News reports the driver is from India, entered the United States illegally in 2018, and was issued a non-domiciled commercial driver’s license in Indiana in May 2025. The driver is currently in federal immigration custody.
Banks also recently launched a “TruckSafe Tipline,” allowing trucking employees and others to report concerns about drivers or companies they believe are operating illegally or unsafely.

The part that is almost worse than loss of life, is the clown illegal invader/illegal driver of the truck got his license in INDIANA. What is going on?? Where is the AG?? Where is the DMV??? Why aren’t then enforcing the laws. Their malfeasance cost an otherwise law abiding Hoosier his life.
