Hometown Heroes: Retired Mishawaka Police Department Louis Beehler helped bring down a crime ring in St. Joseph County

News/Talk 95.3 Michiana’s News Channel and Martin’s Super Markets are honoring our Hometown Heroes this fall and we’ve chosen our sixth honoree.

Louis Beehler is a former Mishawaka Police Department officer who helped bring down a crime ring. He was nominated by his daughter, Jennifer Beehler. Here’s what she wrote about him:

“My father served as a Mishawaka Police officer from 1993 until 2013, and continues to serve on the department as a civilian today. In the last handful of years in his career as an officer, my father worked diligently as part of the MPD Detective Bureau to gather enough information to convict members of the Franklin crime ring in Mishawaka. The people involved in that crime ring were shamelessly scamming vulnerable people in our community through false business fronts, taking as much as several thousand dollars from individuals. They were also involved with many vehicle and equipment thefts in the Mishawaka/South Bend area, which they used to exploit people through their scams, as well as to sell the stolen goods. I remember my dad putting countless hours into the investigation of these individuals. Unfortunately, my father suffered a stroke in September 2013 and was unable to complete the cases personally, which was very disappointing to him. But in the end, his hard work and dedication won out and all of the leading members of the crime ring are either in jail, in federal prison or facing trial for their actions. He was named Officer of the Year for 2013 for his work. I’m so proud of my dad for all of the work he’s done for Mishawaka’s Police Department; he is, without a doubt, my biggest hero. “

Thank you for serving and protecting our community, Louis. Congratulations on being named our sixth Hometown Hero!

News/Talk 95.3 MNC will name one hero a week for the next seven weeks and we’re still accepting submissions. Nominate your Hometown Hero today.
