Readers React: Fine hike for tall grass in South Bend is a bad idea

The South Bend Common Council is considering raising the fines for tall grass in city limits 17-fold, but many 95.3 MNC listeners aren’t happy about it.

The proposal would increase the fine for first offenses from $20 to $350, and as much as $1,500 for subsequent offenses. Grass would need to be less than 9 inches tall to avoid fines.

The council meets at 7 p.m. on the fourth floor of the County-City building on Jefferson Boulevard downtown.

When asked to weigh in on the proposal Sunday on Facebook, more than a dozen readers said that the proposal is a bad idea for a variety of reasons. Read them all below.
