Teen killed after being hit by train in South Bend identified

Police have identified a 16-year-old boy hit and killed by a train on the east side of South Bend on Saturday, June 27.

Elijah Brooks was hit and killed by a train while he was crossing the railroad tracks near the 1700 block of S. Caroline Street in South Bend, according to the South Bend Police Department.

Brooks is the fifth person to be hit and killed by a train in Michiana since May. Brooks and two other people were accidentally hit and killed, while two of the deaths were ruled suicides.
