Man dies while swimming on Little Chapman Lake on Wednesday night

Officers are investigating after a man died while swimming in Little Chapman Lake in Kosciusko County at about 7 p.m. Wednesday night, July 29.

The man was swimming from a boat with a female family member when the man became unconscious, according to a news release from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.

The female relative tried to pull the man out of the water, but couldn’t. Some nearby people helped get the relative out of the water and an off-duty Kosciusko County police officer helped get the man out of the water.

The officer then started CPR until emergency responders arrived and took over. 

Despite their efforts, the man couldn’t be resuscitated. The Kosciusko County Coroner pronounced him dead at the lake.

A cause of death hasn’t been determined. Indiana Conservation officers are investigating the incident.
