Human case of West Nile virus reported in St. Joseph County for the first time in 2015

The first human case of West Nile Virus has been reported in St. Joseph County, according to WSBT.

St. Joseph County Health officials are urging area residents to take protective measures to keep from being bitten by mosquitoes, including avoiding being outside during dusk-to-dawn, staying covered with long sleeves and long pants or using insect repellent containing DEET.

Mosquitoes in 27 counties in Indiana have, so far, tested positive for the virus this year, according to the Indiana State Department of Health. The first human case of West Nile was reported in Huntington County last week.
