Red Hawks to replace Redskins at Goshen Community Schools mascot

As of Jan. 1, Goshen Community Schools will be known by the mascot “Red Hawks.”

The moniker received 53 percent of the vote from Goshen High School and Goshen Middle School students and staff, as well as GHS alumni.

The new mascot comes after the Goshen School Board voted in July to retire the controversial “Redskins” mascot. The issue was raised by two parents in June, who separately requested the the mascot be retired over concerns that “Redskins” may be offensive to Native Americans and inspire bullying in school.
