INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indiana’s homeland security agency is urging Hoosiers to be “especially alert” in public places amid a worldwide travel alert for Americans.

The U.S. State Department warned Americans to be alert to the possible travel risks, particularly during the holidays, following increased threats from militant groups around the globe.

The alert contains no information about any specific threats for Indiana or the U.S. But Indiana’s Department of Homeland Security says Hoosiers should “be especially alert during this time period when traveling or going anywhere there are large gatherings.”

Indiana residents are advised to be aware of their surroundings, especially when they’re in crowds, at sporting events or using public transportation.

The agency urges people to trust their instincts and leave areas and contact law enforcement “if something doesn’t seem right.”
