A 19-year-old man found with a gunshot wound in Elkhart early Wednesday morning is believed to be connected to a burglary that was reported at the same time.

Officers found the victim on South Second Street at about 3:30 a.m., the same time officers were dispatched to 400 block of High Street for a reported burglary in progress, according to Sgt. Chris Snyder with the Elkhart Police Department.

Police believe there was some sort of disturbance at the home on High Street and the 19-year-old was shot in the arm, Snyder said. The 19-year-old then ran from the home.

The man was taken to Elkhart General Hospital and his wound isn’t believed to be lethal.

The incident is under investigation.
