It was a story that apparently was too good to be true.

LaPorte police officials are saying that a man’s story of being approached by two clowns last week was fabricated, according to WSBT.

24-year-old Matthew Cox claimed that he was tracked down by two men in clown suits. He also claimed that he was able to get the upper hand on one of them before the other ran away.

On Friday, Detective Captain Thomas Thate said that Cox’s story was made up. This after “further investigation and interviews with the victim,” according to WSBT.

LaPorte officials wanted to put minds at ease in LaPorte. Police are still investigating.
