Residents of the near-northwest side of South Bend have shared neighborhood safety concerns with police and city officials.

A meeting held at the Near Northwest Neighborhood Association gave neighbors the chance to be heard Tuesday, according to the South Bend Tribune.

The meeting was held after two people were killed in the last month in two different shootings. Police say burglaries, larcenies, and motor vehicle thefts make up the bulk of the reported crimes in the neighborhood.

Many residents believe nuisance properties are a source of the problems, and police say they’ve received 2,000 calls about such properties already this year.
