American Health Care Act’s passage could have big effect on Warsaw

The possible new health care law has the potential to make a big impact locally.

The passage of the new American Health Care Act could have a big effect on Warsaw, which is considered the Orthopedic Capital of the World. The repeal would likely mean more jobs in the city, which has at least six medical device companies employing 6800 people, according to Orthoworx.

According to Congressman Jim Banks, that’s about half of the city’s population, and a third of the industry’s total employees in Indiana.

Obamacare included a medical device excise tax that imposed a 2.3% tax on certain medical devices in 2012. If the house approves the health care bill, medical device companies will be able to stop paying the tax starting December 2017.
