A family heading home to New Jersey from the University of Notre Dame had something quite fowl happen to their windshield.

The LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office shared photos on their Facebook page Tuesday of a wild turkey that had crashed through the windshield of the family’s SUV as it headed west on U.S. 20.

The 30-pound bird was impaled in the center of the windshield, dying upon impact. The family suffered minor cuts from glass.

Deputies warn that, with mating season in full effect, wild turkeys are often on the move and can be as hazardous to drivers as deer.
