Data security a concern for region’s RV and manufacturing industries

(Sarah Welliver/The Elkhart Truth)

Local companies are being warned to protect their data against hackers.

Cyber security experts believe a new report suggests that major industries are among the most popular targets. WSBT reports that manufacturing is being targeted, usually just as a money-making scheme. Hackers hijack computers at businesses big and small with ransomware and demand money to unlock the data they manage to take or lock.

Kyle Hannon, the President of the Greater Elkhart Chamber of Commerce, says with the thriving RV industry located in his community, they take data security very seriously.

The Elkhart Chamber holds workshops to educate businesses about how to stay on top of their data and combat the problem.
