Now that the Super Bowl is over, the Indianapolis Colts have made it official: New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels is taking the head coaching gig in Indy.

One of the worst-kept secrets in the NFL was made official Tuesday. Word got out that McDaniels was going to be tapped to replace Chuck Pagano, who was fired after a disappointing 2017 season. However, the Colts couldn’t make the hire official until after the Patriots completed their season.

McDaniels has spent a total of 16 of the last 19 seasons with the Patriots in various roles. Sandwiched in between was a less-than-fruitful head coaching tenure in Denver in 2009 and 2010, followed by a 2011 stint as offensive coordinator of the St. Louis Rams, where he often clashed with then-head coach Steve Spagnuolo. He returned to the Patriots a season later.
