South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg was one of several declared and potential Presidential candidates who spoke at the Progress Iowa gather in Des Moines, Iowa, on Thursday, Dec. 20.

During Buttigieg’s address, he spoke about being an openly gay mayor who also served in the U.S. Navy Reserve. He called for “deep and lasting change” on issues facing voters, according to the Des Moines Register.

The event marked Buttigieg’s first political appearance since announcing on Monday, Dec. 17, that he would not run for a third term as South Bend Mayor.

That announcement has many political watchers believing Buttigieg is considering a presidential campaign.
