The South Bend Police are notifying the public about a new scam targeting people in their 50s and 60s who use dating websites.

The Department says scammers use the app or website to gain your trust, and even make phone calls to support the ruse.

In a Facebook post, the South Bend Police say the scammers act as if they are interested in a romantic relationship, but the interactions lead to them trying to scam you out of money to help a child or charity. Once the money is sent, the scammer disappears and cuts off all contact.

The FTC recommends stopping payment if you’ve been conned.
