It all stems from an incident back in 2017 when Goshen Police were pursuing an armed 19 year old carjacking suspect. During the chase shots were fired, and the suspect was killed. However, in the middle of the chaos an officer also shot Fernando Cuevas.

The Goshen News reports Cuevas was paralyzed from the waist down. The officers involved were never charged, but Cuevas did file a lawsuit.

Goshen’s portion of the settlement came out to $10,000 to cover the city’s insurance deductible; the entire settlement sum is unknown.
