The Salvation Army Christmas Kettle Now Takes Smart Pay

(Photo supplied/ABC 57)

The Christmas Kettle campaign might look a little different this year. Salvation Army red kettles and bell-ringers have been a part of Christmas in America since 1891 and this year, you’ll be able to tap your smart-phone and make your donation through Apple Pay or Google Pay. The tap to donate program was tested last year in select markets and is rolling out this year nationally.

The Salvation Army says enabling mobile donations will hopefully motivate younger generations to contribute to the holiday campaign which is responsible for 70 percent of their annual donations.
