Scammers are already at work in Michigan, taking advantage of coronavirus fears.
The Michigan State Police are getting reports of state residents getting phone calls asking them for money to treat a relative at hospital. Other calls are seeking personal information for tracking purposes.
These are scam calls, and residents are urged to check in with any relative they hear is sick before agreeing to contribute money or release other information.
The State Police remind Michiganders that there are a lot of people who will attempt to play on the fears of others for financial gain and to obtain personal information.
