The U.S. Department of Agriculture has approved a plan that allows Indiana farmers to commercially grow and process hemp.

Before, farmers needed a research proposal and had to be affiliated with a university researcher to apply for a license, but will no longer need to do that.

Farmers will still need to fill out an application with the state in order to grow hemp starting next year. People sometimes confuse hemp with marijuana.

They are both cannabis, and hemp does produce some THC, but not enough that will create those intoxicating effects if you consume it.
