The future of Michigan’s COVID restrictions will be directly tied to its vaccine rate

Michigan’s governor says easing the state’s COVID restrictions will be tied to the vaccination rate.

Governor Whitmer and state health officials gave an update on Thursday. She and her 19 year-old daughter also received their second COVID shots.

Whitmer announced a plan to establish the easing of restrictions in the state based on its vaccination rate.

It’s part of the state’s “Mi Vacc To Normal” plan that seeks to vaccinate 70% of the state’s 16 and older population. There are tiers for 55% and 60% that relate directly to capacities, face masks, and curfews around the state.

As of Thursday Michigan has 48.8% of its 16 and older population vaccinated against COVID-19.
