Box cutter confiscated from student at Grissom Middle School

A Grissom Middle School student was caught with a box cutter.

A staff member learned about the cutter and told school administrators.

The principal issued a letter to parents saying no threats were made to any students. The principal also reminded parents to check backpacks and pockets before kids head off to school.

Below is the letter issued to parents:

DEAR GRISSOM MIDDLE SCHOOL PARENT/GUARDIAN,

This letter is to inform you a box cutter was confiscated from a student today, Wednesday, October 6. We learned of the box cutter when a staff member brought it to our attention. No threats were made to other students, and it was confiscated without incident.

PHM’s Director of Safety and Student Services, Mike Seger, was contacted immediately. The safety of your child is a top priority for Penn-Harris-Madison School Corporation. We take these matters very seriously, responding immediately with the appropriate action.

Please take the opportunity to talk with your child about school safety and remind them not to bring weapons of any kind to school. We encourage you to check backpacks and pockets before your student leaves for school. Remind your children to report any unsafe behavior or situation to an adult.
