Boy, 17, in juvenile custody after allegedly shooting man during domestic dispute

A 17-year-old boy is in the Berrien County Juvenile Center after police say he shot a man during a domestic dispute.

Officers with Berrien Springs Oronoko Township received a report about a man being shot around 11:50 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 1.

Officers arrived on scene and determined that a 56-year-old male was shot once in the chest by the teenager who was apprehended and lodged at the Berrien County Juvenile Center on a charge of assault with intent to commit murder.

As of Tuesday afternoon, the victim remained in serious but stable condition.

The shooter was the man’s son, and the boy shot him in defense of his mother. They were having a domestic dispute, the boy was in fear of his moms life due to past abuse, and he shot his dad, then called 911.
