Elkhart paramedics called for overdoses at an “alarmingly high rate”

Friday, March 18, was an alarming day for paramedics in Elkhart.

City officials say EMTs responded to five overdose calls in a period of about 10 hours. While they don’t yet know the exact circumstances surrounding the overdoses, they do say that five in one day is an alarmingly high rate.

They also believe the number of overdoses in such a small amount of time indicates the possibility of an unknown presence in the drugs that people are buying.
