Abbott reportedly was alerted much earlier to problems at baby formula facility

Abbott Laboratories were supposedly alerted to concerns at the baby formula plant months earlier than was previously believed.

Allegations of serious safety issues at the plant in Sturgis, Michigan were the subject of a whistleblower filing with OSHA back in February 2021. The Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday that Abbott was informed of the complaint that same month, which included reports of failing equipment that could have allowed bacteria into the formula production process.

Abbott makes up to a fifth of the nation’s baby formula.
