The sheriff of St. Joseph County, Michigan has been arrested on OWI charges.

The collision happened early Sunday morning, Feb. 26, when Michigan State Police say Mark Lillywhite, 47, of Three Rivers rear-ended an SUV on U.S. 131 in Schoolcraft Township.

Both vehicles left the road and minor injuries were reported. Eyewitnesses say Lillywhite’s vehicle didn’t have its headlights on.

Lillywhite was arrested after troopers performed field sobriety tests.

Lillywhite was released after about 10 hours.
