City leaders in South Bend are looking deeper into rising crime numbers.

This year the city has had seven fatal shootings compared to 5 at this time in 2022.

Even though the increase is only slight, city leaders and the police department are rolling out new ways they plan to keep track of and tackle violent crime in South Bend.

One of the tools they’re using is the Real Time Crime Center which has access to over 600 cameras around the city.

The South Bend Police Department also has 243 officers on staff, which matches it’s peak employment from 2019.
