South Bend woman charged with killing her daughter after argument ends with gunfire

A South Bend woman is charged with murder for the shooting death of her daughter.

It was just before midnight, Monday morning, when police were called to the 3900 block of Ardmore Trail after geting a 911 call from a man who said his mother had shot his sister. On arrival, police found Zawondra Lee, 52, dead at the scene.

Shirley Lee, 68,told police she had gotten into an argument with her daughter and shot her in the midst of the verbal altercation.

Besides murder, Lee is charged with the following counts: Voluntary Manslaughter, a level 2 felony and a Firearm Enhancement.

The sentencing range for murder is 45-65 years.

The sentencing range for a level 2 felony is 10 to 30 years.

The sentencing ranger for a firearm enhancement is 10-20 years.

Lee is currently in custody and being held in the St. Joseph County Jail with no bond. She is expected to be arraigned on Wednesday afternoon.
