Juvenile detained in connection with teen shooting on Christmas Day

A juvenile has been detained in connection with a Christmas Day shooting that wounded a 15-year-old girl in South Bend.

Through a collaboration with multiple law enforcement agencies, the juvenile was detained in Mishawaka on Saturday, Dec. 28, by the Mishawaka Police Department.

A charging decision is currently under review by the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office.

The shooting, which occurred just before midnight on December 25, took place in the 300 block of E. Donald Street. The 15-year-old victim suffered substantial, but non-life-threatening injuries.

The South Bend Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit is continuing to investigate the case.
