Indiana State Comptroller Elise Nieshalla is warning Hoosiers about fraudulent letters circulating across the state.
The mailings use official-looking seals and demand immediate action from residents and business owners, but officials say they are not legitimate. Nieshalla stresses the Comptroller’s Office will never request personal payments by mail.
Real correspondence will include the Indiana State Seal, a return address on West Washington Street in Indianapolis and contact information for verification.
Anyone receiving suspicious mail is urged not to respond and instead contact the Comptroller’s Office or report potential fraud to the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division.
Officials say staying vigilant is key to protecting taxpayers.
