A Michiana lawmaker is asking state regulators to review rising NIPSCO utility bills.
State Representative Jim Pressel of Rolling Prairie sent a letter to the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission requesting a formal look at residential electric rates, saying lawmakers are getting many complaints from customers struggling to pay.
A state survey shows a typical customer using 1,000 kilowatt hours in July pays more than 90% more than in 2016, and federal data ranks NIPSCO among the highest residential rates nationwide.
WNDU reports Pressel wants regulators to review past spending, improve bill transparency, and find short-term ways to stabilize rates, saying it could bring relief to Hoosier ratepayers.
