LUDINGTON, Mich. (AP) — A roughly half-mile-long ice cream sundae was gobbled up in Michigan as part of a record attempt.

The Ludington Daily News reports thousands of people lined eight blocks in Ludington, a Lake Michigan town 100 miles northwest of Grand Rapids, on Saturday and more than 1,500 volunteers prepared the massive treat.

Organizers of the event say the sundae measured more than 2,970 feet in length. They documented the event and they’ll find out later this year from Guinness World Records whether it sets a new mark.

According to Guinness, the record for the longest ice-cream dessert of 1,957 feet and 1 inch was set in 2015 in Manurewa, New Zealand.

Ice cream shop House of Flavors in Ludington and others were involved in the Michigan effort.
