Multiple LaPorte County beaches closed over E.coli concerns

(Krystal Vivian/95.3 MNC)

Several areas of the Lake Michigan shoreline in LaPorte County are closed because of concerns over high levels of E.coli found in the water.

Red signs are posted along Duneland Beach, Long Beach and Michiana Shore where the beaches are closed, according to WSBT. Swimmers should stay out of the water until further notice, when the warning signs are either yellow (indicating swim at your own risk) or green (indicating that it’s safe to swim).

E.coli can cause diarrhea and similar sicknesses if it the bacteria is ingested. Anyone who has come into contact with E.coli should shower with hot water and use soap.
