Facebook is frequently used nowadays to communicate with one another. However, a South Bend officer who used the social media tool to contact women on the job has hurt his career by doing just that.

The South Bend Board of Public Safety unanimously agreed without public discussion to demote Don Knabenshue. This means Knabenshue goes from detective sergeant to first-class patrolman, according to the South Bend Tribune.

Documents released after the public meeting say that Knabenshue didn’t contact victims and close cases in a timely manner. It also accuses Knabenshue of making unwelcome comments to women with other officers present.

And lastly, it accuses Knabenshue of using his work computer during his shift to contact women he met in the line of duty via Facebook. That resulted in complaints made to the department by citizens.

Knabenshue accepted the demotion and did not request a hearing, according to the South Bend Tribune.
