Police: Berrien Springs woman seriously hurt after husband backs up over her

A 50 year-old Berrien Springs woman was seriously injured when investigators say her husband backed up a vehicle and struck her.

The collision happened around 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 29, near the entrance to Shamrock Park on Old U.S. 31 in Berrien Springs.

The woman was walking on the roadway near the entrance when she was struck by a 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier, according to a news release from the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department.

The woman was taken to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo for treatment.

The driver of the Cavalier was James Gaston, 45.

Gaston was arrested for driving while license suspended and operating while intoxicated causing a serious injury, according to the news release.

This case is still under investigation.
