Man suffering from life-threatening injuries after shooting in Elkhart

A 35-year-old man suffered life-threatening injuries after being shot in Elkhart.

Officers were called to Carriage House Apartments the 3200 block of Burr Oak Avenue on Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 19, after getting a report of gunfire, according to Sgt. Chris Snyder with the Elkhart Police Department.

Witnesses told police they heard several sounds of gunfire and seeing people running from the area, according to Snyder.

While officers were at the scene conducting their investigation they were told there was a victim with a gunshot wound at Elkhart General Hospital.

Officers were also told there was a dispute and fight earlier in the day which led to the shooting, Snyder stated.

The victim and some other people were leaving in a vehicle and more shots were fired, one of which struck the victim who was a passenger in the vehicle., Snyder stated.

The victim was taken to the hospital by friends.
