Much like Elkhart, the city of South Bend is also thinking of the homeless as winter approaches.

The South Bend Common Council is considering buying the former Kraz Construction Building on 211 W. Monroe St. The city will pay up to $125,000 for the property, according to the South Bend Tribune.

The city itself isn’t keeping the property, however. Instead, it’s donating it to Hope Ministries, which is located across the alley from the property. Hope Ministries will use the building for Project Warm, which gives overnight shelter to the homeless during the winter months.

Project Warm will chip in $45,000 for staffing and maintenance. Hope Ministries will add $30,000 for rehab and maintenance.

The building is said to be in good condition, but needs a few improvements like a second bathroom, according to the South Bend Tribune.
