Recreational vehicle sales in September smash records

(Sam Householder/Elkhart Truth)

September looks like it was the best month for RV sales in four decades.

Sales are exceeding expectations in a year that already expected to be big, according to the Elkhart Truth.

New numbers show significant gains in shipments of towable RVs and Type B Motorhomes. The RV Industry Association report says total shipments to retailers were nearly 14 percent ahead of the same period last year. Motorhomes were up nearly 16.

The RV industry is only about 81,000 units behind its expected year-end total with three months to go.
