Elderly Berrien Center man dies in two-vehicle crash

An 81-year-old man from Berrien Center died after a two-vehicle wreck in Berrien Township Friday morning.

The crash happened at the intersection of Old U.S. 31 and Deans Hill Road shortly before 6:30 a.m. Friday, according to the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office.

Robert Froehlich turned his Ford pickup into the path of another Ford pickup as he tried to Old U.S. 31. The truck ran into him, but Froehlich was able to exit the truck.

However, a Toyota hit him after he stepped out. He was dead at the scene when emergency crews arrived. No one else was hurt, and no charges have been filed since the crash is still under investigation.
