A 16-year-old Niles High School student has been arrested after he ran from police who were trying to speak with him after receiving a tip that the student might have been armed.

It happened on Monday, Dec. 5.

The principal issued a statement saying an airsoft gun was found in the student’s backpack.

The principal stated that no threats were made and considers it an isolated incident.

The school was placed on lockdown when police pursued the student, who they say ran off. Police said the student was located inside a shed at a nearby residence.

The teen was taken to the Berrien County Juvenile Center on preliminary charges of resisting police and illegal entry.
