Freezing rain, sleet, snow mix to hamper Tuesday morning commute

The good news is temperatures are warmer than last week. The bad news is it’s now warm enough for freezing rain instead of snow.

A wintery mix is in the latest forecast from the National Weather Service. It will start in areas north of U.S. 6 late Monday evening. It will slowly creep south into early Tuesday morning.

By daybreak, it’s expected to transition from freezing rain and sleet to just rain as temperatures warm up to the lower 30s. However, because of the recent rigid temperatures, the ground temperature is in the mid-teens, meaning slick roads are expected for the Tuesday morning commute.

A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for most of the 95.3 MNC listening area from 1 a.m. until 7 a.m. Tuesday. LaPorte, Starke, and Pulaski Counties in Indiana have been excluded.
