Niles train stabbing victim sues Amtrak

One of the victims stabbed aboard an Amtrak train just over two years ago in Niles is suing Amtrak.

Gayle VanVorst of Colon was stabbed in the chest by Michael Williams, who stabbed a total of four people as the Amtrak train pulled into the Niles depot in Dec. 2014.

She claims that Amtrak should have ejected Williams from the train at one of the stops between Chicago and Niles when he began to act erratically. Instead, he was simply moved to another passenger car, according to WOOD-TV.

Williams was found not guilty by reason of insanity in Oct. 2015. This is VanVorst’s second lawsuit filed against the rail line.
