Dowagiac man and 4-year-old son killed in crash in Silver Creek Township

A Dowagiac man and his young son were killed in a one vehicle crash in Silver Creek Township.

The collision happened around 3:20 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 26, according to Cass County Sheriff Richard J. Behnke.

The vehicle, driven by a Jordan White, 21, was traveling westbound on School Street when White lost control of the vehicle, traveled into the oncoming lane, then left the roadway and struck several trees, Behnke stated.

White son, Wyatt Lister, 4, and his mother, a 20-year-old woman from Dowagiac, were passengers in the vehicle.

Both White and Lister were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash., Behnke stated.

The child’s mother was airlifted to South Bend Memorial Hospital by Med Flight with what the sheriff’s department said were severe injuries.

Alcohol and speed may have been factors in the crash and seatbelts were not
used by any of the occupants, Behnke stated.

This incident remains under investigation.
