A family car stolen in Niles is presenting quite a challenge for the people trying to get it home.
The Yakim family’s 2004 Kia Optima was stolen last Monday morning. Then, it was involved in a police chase in Indiana through New Chicago, Gary, Hobart, and Lake Station, according to ABC 57.
It finally ended up more than an hour away from home in Portage. The towing and impound fees total $300, which isn’t something the family has just lying around. The car was their only vehicle and they don’t have any emergency funds set aside. The family has started a GoFundMe page to raise the funds needed to get their vehicle back.
The suspect who was arrested while driving the car was charged with five felonies on Wednesday.

I suspect hundreds of people went to the Godundme page with intentions to donate 10 or 20 like I did. Only to find your seeking $3000….that’s why you’ve received $80 in case your wondering. You had some bad luck and myself and others were willing to pitch in, but not if you’re exploiting your misfortune for a windfall.
Why does the victim have to pay to get back what was their in the first place? Add that money on to the criminal who stole the car!
