A Niles man accused of killing his wife and saying two heavyset black men did it is now facing a first degree premeditated murder charge.

John Lewis was arraigned in Berrien County court Wednesday. He’s accused of killing his wife Carla Lewis after what was initially described as a night out.

In court, prosecutors say Carla Lewis was found with five gunshot wounds, including a headshot, Sunday night at their home on the 1400 block of Lawndale Avenue. His bond was set at $1 million and he’ll be ordered to wear a GPS bracelet if he does bond out. The charge carries a mandatory life without parole sentence if he’s convicted.

It’s unknown what the status of the other two supposed suspects is. The blue or black 2008 Mazda CX-9 is still missing. Berrien County officers are asking you to be on the lookout for it…it has Michigan plates CMY3721.
