One person was arrested after a domestic incident led to a 4-hour standoff in Nappanee.

Officers with the Nappanee Police Department were called to a mobile home on Snowberry Circle just before 10 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 26, after receiving a report about a man, identified as Gary Mettert III, who allegedly assaulted a woman, according to 95.3 MNC’s reporting partners at ABC 57.

Officers made several unsuccessful attempts to coax Mettert from the mobile home.

The Elkhart County Emergency Services Unit set up a perimeter around the home and asked several neighbors to evacuate out of an abundance of caution, ABC 57 reported.

After exhausting all other attempts, officers deployed several gas canisters into the mobile home and Mettert surrendered peacefully, ABC 57 reported.

He was taken to the Elkhart County Jail and booked on preliminary charges of domestic battery, resisting law enforcement, and intimidation.
