Michigan City is looking at a possible fee to deal with its drainage situation.

City officials are considering a fee that would help to eliminate standing water problems and improve stormwater capacity.

There will be a public workshop Tuesday evening to discuss the possible creation of an $11 dollar fee for residential property owners. The Northwest Indiana Times quotes Mayor Ron Meer as saying the fee would be slightly higher for businesses, based on several factors.

The expectation is that the fees would bring about an additional $2 million per year that would help create infrastructure improvements.

The City Council must approve the proposal.
