This past week, law enforcement officers from across LaPorte County participated in “Operation Boo”.
This is the fourth time the sweep has been conducted, is an effort to check the compliance of people that are on the county’s sex offender registry.
A total of 88 registered sex offenders were targeted; police officers only found two that were non-compliant.
“We opted to conduct these compliance sweeps in the fall prior to Halloween out of an abundance of caution” stated LaPorte County Sheriff John Boyd. “While the vast majority of offenders are compliant, we feel it is important to verify compliance from time to time. Additionally during the sweep offenders were put on notice that they were being closely monitored during the Halloween and Trick or Treat season and strongly encouraged not to participate.”
Any citizen can search the registry by going to the La Porte County Sheriff’s web site www.laportecountysheriff.com and selecting the “Search for Sex Offenders” option under the “Quick Links” found on the main page of the web site.
